meaning of life


no one asks, what is the meaning of granite?
delving into the mysteries of its purpose, its
existence, the bare veins apparent in its
surface, its hard core.  
				  why was it created as
as a hard rock, what would it have been as a soft rock?
   would its neighboring stones and grains have noticed if 
	    it did not exist?  how would it have withstood the test of heat, 
   of rain, and of storm?  how did its pebbles fare, once
washed into the sea?
			     why did it come into being?  and
when it was gone, where?  and why?  why? quietly again, why?
